DAY SIX
After we had assembled the pieces for the seat and the glue had dried over the weekend, we connected the pairs of legs to the seat.
First we had to drill 4mm wide holes with the drilling machine, then we hammered the 100mm long nails in.
Meanwhile other children could prepare the parts for the backrest.
After connecting the legs to the seat it already looked like a bench.
We nailed the poles of the backrest to the backside of the bench and continued working on the rail for the backrest.
Here you see four proud carpenters with the bench from the backside.
DAY SEVEN
On the next day we made the four diagonals for supporting the legs.
We chose thin ends from the upper part of the tree and carefully cut off the round sides with the circular saw. For not getting our hands too close to the sharp blade we used a stick to push the piece of wood along the blade.
After that each piece got diagonal cuts on its ends.
Working with the big circular saw can be very dangerous but the Foxes worked very careful, listened to the instructions and were very focused.
Well done Foxes!!!
Before connecting the diagonals we had to chisel the sides.
Then we nailed the four pieces to the bottom of the bench.
Meanwhile the “sanding machine” sandpapered the rail of the backrest.
Each diagonal we had to shorten with the handsaw.
Now the bench was solid as a rock.
To prevent the legs from getting contact with the wet ground, we used rubber pads, that we cut from an old car tire.
Those pads we nailed to the bottom of the legs.
